Engraving

Hand Engraving can be applied to almost any precious metal item from the inside of a tiny ring to the largest trophy. Our engraving is done by hand using a graver. The graver is used to cut away the metal leaving a visible mark. The style of script used by engravers has been developed over many centuries to best show off the mark left by the graver. When done to perfection the cut left by the graver will reflect the light and enhance the look of the lettering or picture. This is also why work with a hammered finish also looks fantastic when it is engraved. It is also why we recommend either “Engravers Script” or “Roman” lettering. In this section you will see examples of both lettering and pictorial engraving that shows the beauty of doing this work by hand. Machine or modern laser cutting cannot replicate either this beauty or the lasting depth of the cutting.

Reverse Seal Engraving

is used on signet rings so that they can be used to produce an impression on sealing wax. This is also done by hand not by laser which allows for the detailing on the background to be enhanced with the angling of the engravers tool in the same way that the lettering is enhanced. It is also cut deeper for a more defined impression and is more resistant to wear over the years that the ring is worn.
