Tanzanite is a unique shade of blue that has subtle violet tones. It can also appear differently under different lighting, the blues may appear stronger under fluorescent light and the violet hues can be seen readily under incandescent lighting. It is also a unique stone because it is only mined in one place in the world, a small region northern Tanzania.
