Birthstone Jewellery

In both Eastern and Western cultures, the concept of birthstones holds a significant place in many traditions, customs, and belief systems around the world and is a prominent trend in gemstone jewellery. Birthstones are thought to have originated in the 1st century in Western cultures from the breastplate of Aaron which held twelve gemstones to represent the twelve tribes of Israel. It took centuries to standardise the twelve stones that represented each month as they differed depending on the translation on the Bible. Traditionally all twelve gemstones would be owned and each one would be worn in accordance to the designated stone that month. Nowadays the birthstone of the month you were born in is more strongly associated to individuals and they have become hugely popular in gemstone jewellery gifts, birthday gifts and as a colourful addition to any collection of jewellery.

Our unusual, bespoke birthstone jewellery offers something to suit all tastes with colourful, contemporary earrings, bangles, rings, pendants and necklaces. Many of the birthstones such as tourmaline (October birthstone) and sapphire (September birthstone) come in a variety of tones and shades so you can find the gemstone jewellery that’s perfectly suited to you. We prefer to work in 18ct white, rose and yellow gold, platinum and silver with all our unusual bespoke jewellery handmade in our Ditchling workshops in Sussex, and have a wide range of collections spanning from rough hammered finish metalwork reflecting high quality craftsmanship, to contemporary and unusual designs that radiate sophistication.

Struggling to find a gift for the special men in your life?
