Sell Gold

Turn unworn or broken gold jewellery into something useful. As working goldsmiths, we’ll weigh and test your gold, make you a fair offer based on the day’s gold price, and let you choose how to use it — take it as cash, as credit towards a new piece, or have it remodelled into something you’ll wear again.

Old gold jewellery being assessed

How does selling your gold work?

Selling your gold to us is simple. We weigh each piece and test its purity (its carat), then make you a clear offer based on the live UK gold price that day — with no hidden fees. You can bring your gold to our Ditchling workshop by appointment, or arrange to send it to us securely by post.

Because we’re goldsmiths rather than a cash-for-gold counter, you don’t have to part with the value at all: it can become store credit or a brand-new handmade piece instead.

Melting gold in a forge

What can you do with your gold’s value?

Once you’ve had your offer, you have three options:

Take the cash — a secure, prompt payment by bank transfer.
Use it as credit — put the value towards a new piece of Pruden & Smith jewellery.
Remodel it — keep the sentiment and have your gold reset and remade into a fresh design.

Not sure which is right for you? Our jewellery remodelling service is a popular way to give inherited or unworn gold a new life.

“I’m now the proud owner of an eternity ring made using the gold from my late husband’s wedding ring — handmade especially for me, and full of very special meaning.”

How much is my gold worth?

The value of your gold comes down to three things: its weight, its purity (carat), and the current market price of gold — which moves daily. We price every piece on the live UK rate on the day you sell, so your offer is always fair and up to date.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is my gold worth?

Your gold’s value is based on its weight, its purity (carat) and the live UK gold price on the day you sell. We give you a clear, upfront offer with no hidden fees. You can check today’s rate at gold.co.uk.

What gold do you buy?

We buy gold jewellery of any carat — 9ct, 14ct, 18ct, 22ct and more — including odd or broken pieces. If you have gold coins or bullion, get in touch and we’ll let you know what we can do.

Can I sell broken or damaged gold?

Yes — broken chains, single earrings, bent rings and worn-out pieces are all fine. Gold is valued on its weight and purity, not its condition.

How do I get paid?

Once you accept our offer, we pay promptly and securely by bank transfer.

Can I use my gold towards new jewellery instead of cash?

Absolutely. You can take the value as store credit towards a new piece, or have your gold remodelled into a new handmade design.

Do I have to come in, or can I post my gold?

Either works. Book an appointment to bring your gold to our Ditchling workshop, or email hello@prudenandsmith.com to arrange secure postage.

How is the gold price decided?

We use the live UK market price on the day, applied to your gold’s weight and purity. It’s fully transparent, with no hidden fees or deductions sprung on you afterwards.

Is selling my gold to you secure?

Yes. We’re established goldsmiths who have been making jewellery since 1988, and every piece is handled professionally, ethically and sustainably.

Where are you based?

Our workshop and showroom are in Ditchling, Sussex (2 South Street, BN6 8UQ) — a short drive from Brighton and around an hour from London.
