Choosing Tourmaline Jewellery

Tourmaline is the great all-rounder of the gem world — no other stone occurs in such a wide range of colours, from pink and green to blue, yellow and the famous 'watermelon' (pink-and-green in one crystal). That variety means there's a tourmaline to suit almost any taste, and ours are handmade into pieces at the bench in Ditchling.

Prices start at around £180 for a beaded silver necklace or bracelet and rise to around £1,400 for gold cluster and Roman-style designs, with most falling between £320 and £980. The collection runs across cabochon dress rings, stud and drop earrings, and beaded necklaces and bracelets in silver and 9ct gold.

As one of October's birthstones (alongside opal), tourmaline is a lovely choice for autumn birthdays and for anyone who loves colour. Because everything is handmade at our Sussex workshop, we can set a particular tourmaline, work with a stone you already own, or design something bespoke. Gold pieces carry a 10-year guarantee and silver a 2-year guarantee, with free re-polishing for life.

Frequently Asked Questions

What colours does tourmaline come in?

Tourmaline has one of the widest colour ranges of any gemstone — pink, green, blue, yellow, honey and even two colours in a single crystal, known as 'watermelon' tourmaline. This makes each piece quite individual, and lets you choose a colour with personal meaning.

What is watermelon tourmaline?

Watermelon tourmaline is a natural crystal that's pink in the centre and green around the outside — like a slice of watermelon. It's one of the most sought-after varieties, prized for showing two colours in a single stone.

Is tourmaline a birthstone?

Tourmaline is one of the birthstones for October, alongside opal, which makes it a popular and colourful choice for autumn birthdays.

Can you make bespoke tourmaline jewellery?

Yes. Because tourmaline comes in so many colours, it's a wonderful stone to design around. We can source a particular colour, set a stone you already own, or create something bespoke at our Sussex workshop, with a 10-year guarantee on gold and 2 years on silver plus free re-polishing for life.
