Dress Rings

A dress ring is made to be noticed — a bold, characterful piece worn for its design rather than to mark an engagement. Ours are handmade at our Ditchling workshop in Sussex in gold, platinum and silver, set with diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, aquamarine, opal and lapis. From spiky cocktail rings to three-strand gold designs, each one is built to make you stand out.

Choosing a Dress Ring

A dress ring — sometimes called a cocktail ring — is worn purely for its look, with no engagement or wedding meaning attached. That gives us free rein on design, so this collection is among the most adventurous we make, all handmade at the bench in Ditchling.

Prices start at around £280 for a marquise lapis lazuli ring and rise to several thousand pounds for diamond-set cocktail designs, with most falling between £980 and £3,200. You'll find spiky and hammered gold rings, three-strand bands, rough and brilliant-cut gemstones, and colourful mixes of sapphire, emerald, aquamarine and opal in yellow, white and rose gold, platinum and silver.

Because a dress ring is all about personality, it's a natural piece to make bespoke — designed around a favourite gemstone, a special occasion, or stones you already own. We can resize for the right finger, too. Gold and platinum pieces carry a 10- and 20-year guarantee, with free re-polishing for life.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a dress ring?

A dress ring is a decorative ring worn for its design rather than to mark an engagement or marriage. Also called a cocktail ring, it's usually bolder than an everyday band and can be worn on any finger to finish an outfit.

What is the difference between a dress ring and a cocktail ring?

The terms are used interchangeably. 'Cocktail ring' tends to describe a larger, more glamorous statement piece, while 'dress ring' is a slightly broader term — but both mean a ring worn for style rather than as an engagement or wedding ring.

Which finger do you wear a dress ring on?

There are no rules — a dress ring can be worn on any finger that feels comfortable and shows it off, often the right hand or a finger that's otherwise bare. Because everything is handmade, we can size a ring to whichever finger you have in mind.

Can you make a bespoke dress ring?

Yes, and dress rings are one of the most rewarding pieces to design bespoke — built around a gemstone, an occasion or stones you already own. We design and handmake everything at our Sussex workshop, with a 10- and 20-year guarantee on gold and platinum and free re-polishing for life.
