More Than a Ring: Rupert & Maisie's Bespoke Engagement Story

Written by Pruden & Smith

A familiar window in Ditchling

Rupert wanted something that felt truly one-of-a-kind — a ring as singular as the moment it stood for. He'd grown up in Ditchling and had passed the Pruden & Smith windows countless times, quietly admiring the pieces inside. Several friends had had their engagement rings designed and made by us, so when his own turn came, it felt like the natural place to start.

Confidence in the choice didn't quite settle the nerves, though. Rupert came in with only a rough idea of what he wanted, and — like a lot of people at the start of a commission — found the blank page a little daunting.

Giving her aunt's ring new life

Sitting down with our designer Bec changed the mood entirely. “She listened so carefully, sketched out ideas so we could both visualise the ring, and explained the design decisions that would ensure it was both beautiful and durable,” Rupert told us. “I came away feeling completely reassured — and the final result confirmed that I was in very safe hands.”

There was one detail Rupert had carried in from the very beginning. Maisie had been left a ring by her late aunt, someone she'd been especially close to. Rupert wanted that connection woven into the proposal itself. Working with Bec, the stones from her aunt's ring were carefully set into the new design — given a new life in a piece Maisie would wear every day.

From Bec's sketches the design moved to a CAD render, then to the bench, where our goldsmiths in Ditchling brought it together: a moonstone at its heart, set in platinum, with her aunt's stones alongside. The result was exactly what Rupert had hoped for — beautiful, durable, and quietly full of meaning.

Stunning, and entirely their own

The proposal was intimate and full of meaning — and the ring, a perfect symbol of their story. “We're both so pleased with Maisie's ring — it's stunning and totally unique,” they shared. “The care and attention Bec and the entire team put into the process made getting engaged even more memorable than we imagined.”

Rupert hadn't simply found a ring. He'd given a much-loved aunt a place in every ordinary day to come.
