Choosing a Silver Necklace

Silver is one of the most versatile metals in jewellery — bright, hard-wearing and endlessly wearable. Our collection is made entirely from solid sterling silver, hand-finished at the bench in Ditchling, and ranges from delicate everyday pendants to bold statement necklaces.

Prices start at around £40 for a small forged pendant and rise to several thousand pounds for larger and gemstone-set pieces, with most necklaces falling between £99 and £650. Signature styles include our hammered Nugget chains, forged drop pendants, torque (necktorc) necklaces and hammered silver hearts — many of which can be paired with the chain length you prefer.

Worn every day, a solid sterling silver necklace will last for years with simple care, and we offer free re-polishing to keep it bright. We can also adjust any design or make something bespoke with you — just get in touch to start a commission.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are your silver necklaces solid sterling silver?

Yes. Every silver necklace and pendant in this collection is made from solid sterling silver — never plated — and hand-finished at our Sussex workshop. Where the law requires it, pieces are independently hallmarked at a UK assay office. Some designs also combine sterling silver with 9ct or 18ct gold accents.

How do I care for a silver necklace and stop it tarnishing?

Silver naturally darkens over time as it reacts with air and moisture. Keep your necklace dry, store it in a pouch or box away from other jewellery, and buff it gently with a silver polishing cloth to bring back the shine. We also offer free re-polishing on any Pruden & Smith piece, so it can be restored to its original finish whenever it needs it.

What is the difference between a silver necklace and a pendant?

A pendant is the individual charm or drop that hangs from a chain, while a necklace is the complete piece including the chain or cord. Many designs here pair one of our handmade silver pendants — a hammered heart, forged drop or signature nugget — with a chain, and most pendants can also be bought on their own to wear on a chain you already have.

Can you make a silver necklace bespoke, and is it guaranteed?

Yes. Because everything is handmade in Ditchling, we can adjust a design, change the chain length or create something entirely bespoke with you. Our silver jewellery is covered by a two-year guarantee against manufacturing faults, alongside free re-polishing to keep it looking its best.
