Choosing a Trilogy Engagement Ring

A trilogy ring carries three stones, traditionally said to represent the past, present and future of a relationship — which is part of what makes it such a meaningful choice for an engagement. Some couples choose three matched diamonds for a clean, classic look; others set a larger central stone between two smaller ones, or bring in a coloured gemstone such as sapphire, emerald or aquamarine.

Every trilogy and three-stone engagement ring in this collection is designed and handmade in our Ditchling workshop in Sussex. You'll find round brilliant diamonds, fancy shapes like pear and marquise, Art Deco-inspired designs and our signature Trap settings, in platinum, yellow gold and rose gold.

Prices start from around £1,600, with most pieces falling between £2,400 and £5,900 depending on the stones, carat weight and metal. If you have a particular stone, shape or budget in mind, we can also make a trilogy ring bespoke — or adapt one of these designs to suit you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a trilogy engagement ring?

A trilogy engagement ring is set with three stones sitting side by side. The three stones are traditionally said to represent the past, present and future of a relationship, which is why they're also known as three-stone or "past, present and future" rings. The centre stone is often slightly larger than the two that flank it, though many designs use three matched stones for a balanced, symmetrical look.

What's the difference between a trilogy ring and a side stone ring?

Both have a centre stone with stones to either side. In a trilogy (or three-stone) ring the three stones are usually a similar size and together form the main feature of the design. In a side stone ring the central stone is the clear focal point, and the smaller side stones are there to accent and frame it. If you prefer that look, take a look at our Side Stone Engagement Rings collection.

Which gemstones can I choose for a trilogy engagement ring?

Most of our trilogy rings feature diamonds, in round brilliant and fancy shapes such as pear, marquise and old cut. You can also choose a coloured gemstone — sapphire, emerald and aquamarine are popular choices — for the centre stone or for all three. If you would like a particular stone, shape or combination, we can make your ring bespoke in our Sussex workshop.

Are your trilogy engagement rings guaranteed, and can they be resized?

Yes. Every ring is handmade in our Ditchling workshop and our engagement rings come with a lifetime guarantee on the piece as supplied. Most designs are made to your finger size, and many can be resized later if your size changes — just ask. We also offer free re-polishing to keep your ring looking its best.
