Help and Guides

How to Choose Your Wedding Ring

Choosing your wedding rings is a big deal. In fact, choosing the right wedding ring is one of the most important things you will do when getting married. After all, marriage is about more than just saying ‘I do'. It's about showing it too. Fortunately, with a little help and some patience it's not hard to find the right style for you and your partner.

Pick a metal that matches your engagement ring

From knowing your size to determining the best material and style, choosing your wedding ring is a big decision. There is a lot to consider when making your choice, so here's some advice, guidance and inspiration to help you decide on the perfect set of wedding rings.

Generally, we recommend matching the metal to that of your engagement ring. But if you want to create a unique two-toned set, mixing gold and silver tones can work well too. Platinum is the hardest and strongest of the precious metals, but 18ct yellow and rose gold can be a lovely alternative if you are looking to add a pop of colour.

Think about how you're going to wear them

It's also important that both rings are both practical and comfortable for everyday wear, so they don't cause any problems during everyday activities like cleaning, exercise or being outside in nature.

However, if you plan on taking them off occasionally, you might be happier with a heavier, chunkier band.

Match it to your partner

You might want to consider matching the metal or shape of your rings, so that they are a set in themselves – as a symbol of your relationship.

If you want to go this route, it's important to keep in mind that there are many different ways to match your wedding bands. You may want them to be the same metal, or the same shape. You could even match the shape of the ring with your partner’s ring so they fit together perfectly.

Whatever you decide, whether it's just one ring or both rings together as one unit, just remember: this is an expression of love and commitment between two people who are going into marriage together – so make sure it feels right for both of you!

Decide on a style

There are a number of decisions to make, to distinguish what kind of band will be perfect for you and your partner, including:

  • Whether your taste is more traditional or contemporary?
  • Would you like something simple or ornate?
  • What material do you prefer: platinum or 18ct and 9ct gold in white, rose or yellow?

While these questions can be difficult to answer on their own, they may help you make an informed decision.

You and your partner should pick wedding rings that feel right for you

Your wedding ring is a symbol of your relationship and an outward expression of how you feel about each other. It’s also a fantastic way to show off your individual style, so you want to make sure it’s the right fit for both of you.

Think about what kind of style or look resonates with you. You might fall in love with something completely different than your partner does – but that doesn't mean it won't be perfect on its own.
