Choosing Hoop Earrings

Mini hoops sit close to the ear and work for every day; wide and 35mm pairs make more of a statement. Most of our hoops carry a hand-hammered finish — every facet is struck individually at the bench, so no two pairs catch the light quite the same way. Twisted, nugget-beaded, six-strand and concave designs round out the collection.

Choose sterling silver, solid 9ct gold, or mixed silver-and-gold — with diamond-set options including rough, uncut diamonds for something quietly unconventional. Prices run from £75 to £1,800, with most pairs between £99 and £500.

Every pair is made in Ditchling, Sussex by our own goldsmiths, hallmarked where required, and covered by our guarantee — two years on silver and ten on gold, with free re-polishing for life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are your hoop earrings solid gold or plated?

Our hoop earrings are made in solid 9ct gold or sterling silver, with a small number of gold-plated designs at more accessible prices — the metal is always stated clearly on each product page. Solid gold and silver pieces are hallmarked in line with UK law.

What size hoop earrings should I choose?

Mini hoops sit close to the earlobe and suit everyday wear; mid-size hoops around 20–30mm frame the face without catching on collars; our widest pairs, up to 35mm, are statement pieces. Every product page lists the exact diameter — if you're unsure, measure an existing pair you like wearing.

Will silver hoop earrings tarnish?

Sterling silver naturally dulls over time, though regular wear keeps it bright. If your hoops lose their shine, send them back to us — free re-polishing for life is included, and our silver carries a two-year guarantee.

What makes hammered hoop earrings different?

Each pair is hammered by hand at the bench in our Ditchling workshop, so the facets are struck individually rather than cast from a mould — no two pairs are exactly alike, and the texture catches the light in a way smooth polished hoops don't. It's the finish Pruden & Smith has been known for over thirty years.
