Frequently Asked Questions
Are your pearls real?
Yes — we use real cultured pearls: Akoya, Keshi and baroque, in white, pink, grey and black. Cultured pearls are genuine pearls grown in oysters and mussels rather than imitations, and each one in our collection is selected and set by hand in our Sussex workshop.
What is the difference between Akoya, Keshi and baroque pearls?
Akoya pearls are the classic: round, white and high-lustre. Keshi pearls form without a nucleus, so they're small, irregular and made of solid nacre with a soft glow. Baroque pearls are larger freeform shapes — every one unique. Akoya suits timeless pieces; Keshi and baroque suit more organic, contemporary designs.
How should I care for pearl jewellery?
Pearls are softer than gemstones, so make them the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off — perfume, hairspray and cosmetics can dull the nacre. Wipe them with a soft cloth after wear and store them away from harder jewellery. Treated kindly, pearls last generations.
What guarantee does your pearl jewellery carry?
Strung pieces such as necklaces and bracelets carry a one-year guarantee; the metalwork is covered for two years on silver and ten on gold, with free re-polishing for life. Everything is handmade in our Ditchling workshop, and we're always happy to look at a piece that needs attention.
