Choosing a Signet Ring
Faces come in oval, cushion, round and heart shapes, in sterling silver from £240 through 9ct, 14ct, 18ct, 22ct and 24ct gold to platinum — polished, hand-hammered, or set with bloodstone or lapis lazuli. Heart signets and slimmer faces suit those who want something more delicate.
Every ring is handmade and hallmarked in our Ditchling, Sussex workshop, and covered by our guarantee — two years on silver, ten on gold and twenty on platinum, with free re-polishing for life.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which finger do you wear a signet ring on?
Traditionally, a signet ring is worn on the little finger of the non-dominant hand — but there's no rule today. Many wear them on the ring or index finger; choose whichever feels natural. We make each ring to your exact size for whichever finger you choose.
What is seal engraving?
Seal engraving cuts the design in reverse (intaglio), deep into the metal or stone, so the ring leaves a correct, raised impression when pressed into wax — the signet's original purpose. Ours is done by hand in the traditional way, which holds far more detail than machine work.
Can you engrave my family crest?
Yes — if you have your family crest or coat of arms as artwork, a photograph or even an old ring, our hand engravers can work from it. Script initials and regimental badges are engraved the same way. We'll share the design for your approval before any metal is cut.
Which metal is best for a signet ring?
Sterling silver is the accessible choice from £240; 9ct gold is the hardest-wearing gold for daily wear; 18ct to 24ct golds give a deeper colour, though the purer the gold the softer it is; and platinum is the most durable of all. If in doubt, tell us how you'll wear it and we'll advise.
